They needed a common cause… Her heroic stand gave them one.
Even at an early age, Rosa refused to believe that she was inferior to anyone. As she grew up, Rosa was forced to cope with many degrading and humiliating situations, particularly a failed attempt to register to vote. Years later, in 1955, Rosa Parks created the spark that ignited the modern Civil Rights Movement. After a long days work, she takes the only available seat in the first row of the “colored” section on a bus. When the driver demands that the “black” passengers clear the row for the white woman, Rosa would not comply. This compelling true story demonstrates the power a single act of defiance can have over an ancient tradition of injustice.
